Matt Kareus Executive Director of the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association
Matt is the Executive Director of the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association, an association of travel companies, conservation organizations, and other groups that are dedicated to the complete and lasting protection of the Galapagos Islands as a unique and priceless world heritage. He also serves as Director of Marketing for Sustainable Travel International, a non-profit dedicated to promoting sustainable development by providing programs that help travelers, businesses and destinations protect the environment, preserve cultural heritage and promote economic development. He is also the Director of Business Development at Natural Habitat Adventures, one of the world’s leading eco-travel companies.
Matt’s career in the travel industry began in college when he spent a summer guiding groups of travelers across Alaska and Canada’s Yukon and Northwest Territories. Since then his love of adventure has taken him from the high Arctic to the Antarctic and many wild and wonderful places in between throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and the Pacific.
He is motivated personally and professionally by the belief that travel at its best is not only one of life’s great pleasures, but that it can be a positive and transformative force for good in the world. He was born in raised in Colorado and received his BA from the University of Colorado. He lives in Boulder with his wife Maggie and their dog Jones.
