Few things can have a greater impact on the life of a young student than an international immersion experience. Global Explorers brings these rich, eye-opening, and transformative experiences to middle and high school students from around the world. Emphasizing science, culture, service and leadership our programs educate young leaders to respect and appreciate the diversity of the world in which we live. Global Explorers is a nonprofit organization (501)(c)(3) committed to providing a program that is educational, fun, supportive, safe and community-oriented.
Here are some things that set our program apart:
A Comprehensive Educational Experience
Our nonprofit organization consistently provides middle and high school students with an unparalleled educational program centered around an international experience. Using our Discovering Classroom Earth Curriculum, teachers prepare their students for six months prior to their International Field Workshop so that students can fully appreciate the people, places, language and ecosystems they will encounter. While on the International Field Workshop, students have the opportunity to experience field-based natural science and cultural history lessons and meaningful cultural exchange as we give back to the communities we visit through service. Finally, following the Field Workshop, students implement a student-designed Service Leadership Project that helps them process their experience and incorporate the lessons they learned into their everyday lives. Teachers can elect to receive 3-hours of graduate course credit for taking their students through our program—a true tribute to the educational value of the program!
Safety
Our participants and their parents entrust the lives of themselves and their children to our care and we take that responsibility seriously. We take a preventative approach towards safety. That’s why we spend so much time preparing students and our staff beforehand for the kinds of experiences they are going to have while traveling. Moreover, our staff has many years of experience traveling internationally with students. While traveling abroad, students will always be within minutes to a few hours of excellent medical care. We work very closely with our in-country partners to provide the most up-to-date policies and procedures to deal with unexpected emergencies. And our staff medical training and first-aid kits are developed in consultation with a family physician who specializes in travel health.
Ongoing Staff Support
Our staff is here to support teachers, parents and students every step of the way. Among other things, this includes a detailed, user-friendly Administrative Guide to launching the program, our adaptable, ready-to-use Discovering Classroom Earth Curriculum, monthly updates on what teachers and parents need to be working on and Field Workshop handbooks for teachers and their students. Best of all, the traveling group’s Global Explorers Program Coordinator is available to help whenever he/she needs assistance.
Community Emphasis
Just as we want to provide our students with an amazing experience, we strive to offer the communities we visit with an unprecedented learning opportunity. We continue to develop creative and appropriate ways to give back to the communities we visit whether through education, service or donations. And we are committed to long-term partnerships with these communities. Click here to read about some of our partners.
We combine all of this into a wonderfully fun and life-changing program. We invite you to Come Discover Classroom Earth with us!
