Katie Watkins Communications and Outreach Manager
With a diverse childhood landing her in over 10 different schools, Katie was aware early on of the regional differences within the culture of the United States. This combined with her personal philosophy that everyone can teach you something, forged in her an insatiable curiosity about the cultures of the greater world around her. Her first international travel experience was at 17, when she participated in a humanitarian housing project in Mexico. Excited and humbled by the human connection that exists between people who live in completely different worlds, she knew that she was on to something she loved. Her passion was further developed when she spent several weeks backpacking through Europe as a young college student.
Katie has a degree in communications with an emphasis in marketing and minor in creative writing. She spends most of her time with her husband, Steven, a middle school teacher, and their dog Chaco, an Australian Shepherd/Standard Poodle mix. Together they enjoy the outdoors, hunting down good music, and cooking great food. Katie also loves to engage her creative juices with reading, writing, and painting. She’s always up for a good chat, and values one thing above all else: honesty.
