Emily

My name is Emily.  I’m 17 years old, and I am a junior at Mainland High School.  I am from a large family, and I love being around people.  Music has always been a huge part of my life.  I’ve played piano for eight years, and I have been playing clarinet for seven years.  I enjoy arranging and composing my own music, although it can be a little difficult at times.  I am left handed, and my favorite color is blue.  When I’m not absolutely swamped with homework, I love hanging out with friends and family.  I love school, and I participate in several after school clubs.  I love swimming, running, and basically anything outside.

I chose to apply for the Global Explorers Leading the Way program mainly because it seemed like an amazing experience that I could not pass up.  The idea of going to Peru with a group of my sighted and blind peers really excited me.

I am mostly looking forward to going to a foreign country.  I think it will be very interesting to learn about the unique culture of Peru.  I am also looking forward to working with my fellow teammates in demanding but rewarding situations.  I am so grateful for this opportunity, and I can hardly wait to begin this thrilling adventure.
