Learning Afar Students Find Out “Where Travel Can Take Them”
“The feeling I have right now…I just wish I could share it with the whole world.”
– Najee, Learning Afar Program Participant
It’s that feeling that you can only get from a profound and life-changing travel experience. The feeling you get when you begin to truly understand more about our world and start to discover your place in it. It’s the feeling that everyone had during our first ever Global Explorers Learning Afar program in Costa Rica. From July 5 - 14, 14 students and 1 teacher from Yonkers, NY had the chance to visit Costa Rica with generous support from the Afar Foundation, the philanthropic affiliate of our partner, Afar Media. These students made up the first of 2 Learning Afar groups in 2010, and helped set the stage for many more groups to have similar experiences through the help of the Afar Foundation. With a mission to promote cross-cultural exchange by sponsoring international travel and study for students who cannot otherwise afford to experience another part of the world, the Afar Foundation’s philosophy falls right in line with the mission of Global Explorers and we look forward to a long and fulfilling partnership.
