My daughter was enticed to consider her first Global Explorers trip because her charismatic Middle School Counselor was organizing the group, because it was possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a unique corner of the world, and because it was much more than a fun trip—the sessions leading up to the trip and the research done in Churchill made the experience much more meaningful!
During her experience, she gained an appreciation for another way of life—a culture and environment very different from ours in Atlanta. Her exposure to the research institute further encouraged her interest in environmental studies. And, by committing to and succeeding in earning a third of the cost of the trip, she gained self-confidence and a greater appreciation for this opportunity.
I would recommend Global Explorers to other parents for the following reasons:
- The trips have an educational mission, not just tourism and fun;
- The integration of community service into the trips;
- The abundance of information shared with the students and parents in advance of the trip, ensuring us that the trip was well planned and safe for our children;
- The learning sessions throughout the spring leading up to the trip prepared the students for their learning experience; and
- The willingness of Global Explorers to seek out unusual destinations, while most student travel groups stick to the more common locales.
